I've been going to meetups and listened to podcasts and I realized something: we talk a lot about how to motivate people in our companies. And the more we talk about it, more unsatisfied people we meet.
It seems that we're doing something (or everything) wrong. What motivates one person do not necessarily motivates another. Finding this sweet spot that could work for most people seems impossible.
What if we take a step back and attack what is demotivating everyone in the first place? All these things we do to stimulate our employees may be great but they vanish over time, as the things that throw us down are still taking place in the company.
